Foam
The cost of foam usually surprises most customers. The cost of good quality foam still surprises me. It's not cheap, but think for a moment. How long do you spend on it? According to those who research such things, 20% of your week is spent in your favourite seat.
So many suites these days are a let down by the cushion fillings. By getting your cushions professionally re-foamed, you can totally transform a scruffy looking suite into something that looks totally crisp and new.
If you have feather or hollofill cushions and you are fed up plumping them up every 5 minutes, let us change them for new foam ones. It costs a fraction of the cost of a new suite and it will totally transform the look of it. By using a seat with a flattened cushion, you are also putting extra stress on the springs and frame of your furniture.
We can either collect your cushions or you can bring them in. If you bring them in, please phone or email us first as we will need a couple of measurements of your furniture, i.e. seat width and depth. We keep a good supply of foam in stock but larger quantities may need to be ordered. This can take up to 7 days.
We offer 2 main types of seat foam (many more are available):
39H
This is a fairly firm seat foam with a high laminate content and a life expectancy of approximately 5 years. It will soften by about 25% of its density after a few months. It is better quality than the foam found in most modern 3 piece suites. We usually wrap this with a 4-6oz polyester sheeting. This adds comfort and lessens the friction wear between the foam and fabric. We then wrap this with a stockinette cover to protect it all.
Cost to supply: 0.5p Per Cubic Inch.
Cost to refill your cushions as above: 1p per cubic inch.
Example: 24" x 24" x 4" Seat Cushion:
Supply Only = 24 x 24 x 4 x 0.5 = £11.52
Supply & Refill Cushions = 24 x 24 x 4 x 1 = £23.04
50S
This is a luxury seat foam. It has a much higher latex content than the 39S, and you will notice the difference. We have sample cushions for you to try. This has a life expectancy of approximately 10 years. I think it's worth the extra, but please try before you buy! This is the quality of foam you would expect to get if you were spending £2500+ on a new 3 piece suite.
Cost to supply: 0.75p Per Cubic Inch.
Cost to refill your cushions as above: 1.2p per cubic inch.
Example: 24" x 24" x 4" Seat Cushion:
Supply Only = 24 x 24 x 4 x 0.75 = £17.28
Supply & Refill Cushions = 24 x 24 x 4 x 1.2 = £34.56
These are the only two seat grades I recommend. They are the best value for your money on the market. With foam, you really do get what you pay for. I won't supply the cheap stuff that you find in superstore type furniture and I don't recommend the real top end, i.e. Dunlopillow, because, although it is the best on the market:
A- It's only very slightly more comfy than the 50S
B- It's approximately 3 times the price, and yes, it will last a good 20 years, but you wouldn't want to keep it that long because it smells like burnt rubber after about 8-10 years.
All of our foam meets the rquirements of Schedule 1 Part 1 of the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 SI 1324 (amended 1989 SI 2358) and CAA Specification No. 8 Issue 2. You can find more details of these regulations at the OPSI website.
